Volunteer Work! Go out and volunteer anyplace that is in need of people. You will learn new skills without the pressure of "being fired" you will meet new people/friends which will boost your self confidence level, and you will feel better about yourself because you are helping someone else out. It also looks good on a resume and adds experiences and skills.

Most people go around with a sign on their head, and the sign says this:

    MAKE ME FEEL IMPORTANT!

Do that - i.e. make them feel important when you’re talking to them - and your interpersonal skills will improve automatically.
