My fiancee is at fort irwin for pre deployment training.?

I was just asking to see what exactly goes on there. Does the training start the same day he gets there or not. Will he be able to talk to me or will the communication but cut off. Thank all you for all of your answers.

The training does not start the day he gets there. The first week is in the "dustbowl" during RSOI - vehicle prep, orders prep, battle prep, etc. There are phones and computers available (limited) during this week. The next two weeks are in the "box" - the training area where the simulated fights are conducted. There are no phones or computers out there. If he is lucky, he may be able to sneak his cell phone into the box and call once a week or so. The coverage there is pretty bad, though. The 4th week is back in the "dustbowl" doing refit, and there is computer and phone access again.

NTC (The national training center, Fort Irwin, CA), is where happiness goes to die.
