changing your mos during basic training?

im in the regular army at basic training. im on home for christmas leave my mos is 92y unit supply. but as ive been in the army. i wanted to become an mp. or something with communications is there anyway to switch my mos before i go to ait.

At this point your recruiter can’t do anything for you. He’s job was to get you in the Army, and that’s done.

Talk to your Drill Sergeant and see if he can and will help. Remember that while in Basic, you have a lot to learn in very little time, so looking for another MOS for you is not exactly a high priority from a DS’s point of view.

If your DS doesn’t help you, you will not be able to change your MOS until you reenlist.

By the way, the 92Y school is at Fort Lee, VA, not Fort Jackson.

I don’t think so. We had a couple guys want to switch MOS during training but they were not allowed to. I think you have to serve a certain number of years with the MOS in your contract before you can switch.

Doesn’t hurt to ask. Don’t be surprised if they say no.

I do not believe that you can, because you have already been slotted for that school, your best thing to do is to call your recruiter while you are home and talk with him, and see if he/she can get in contact with meps and have that changed before you graduate basic training.

No. Your best bet is to wait until your reenlistment window opens up. If you fail AIT, the Army will pick another MOS for you; I don’t suggest you go that route.

Nope. You already have orders for school. You can screw up in school, but that would just make you lose the MOS you have now and maybe get kicked out or get something worse. Don’t worry though even in the supply field you will be doing lots of weapons handling in Iraq when you go.

Unless things have changed you can not switch your MOS. The military is already counting on you to fill a vacant spot . Believe it or not they already know exactly which units you will be assigned to during the course of your enlistment .

You can ask, but prolly not. They will make you get MOSQ then try to transfer. Just do it before you get any benifits, otherwise you might have to pay em all back.
